Perhaps, and perhaps, after long separation,

we shall meet with all that we hope for from life.

And were my eye to behold your person for an hour,

I would guard my eye against the evil eye.

Oh, if only I knew how you are: does longing fill

your heart as before, or is it without longing?

For the garden of my pledge within me is not barren,

nor is the dwelling of my love within my heart worn out.

Oh, how lovely was the season of youth—

the maidens of our hopes—and its restrainer [sense unclear]—if only it had lasted!

A time when we strung the necklace of every ease,

and in it untied the knot of every hindrance.
