سوداء يشفي بنيها الدهرُ من فيها
How beautiful—unadorned, yet adorned with beauty—
How lovely an unadorned one, adorned with beauty!
a black one whose children Time heals from her mouth.
Black—Time heals her sons from her mouth.

But when her children’s natures are compared
But her sons, when their natures are compared
with those of this world’s children, they prove unlike them.
With those of the world's sons, prove at odds with them.

If suckled, they encounter toil; and if they are weaned,
They meet hardship if suckled; and if weaned,
weaning immediately elevates their condition.
Their weaning would at once work a healing charm on her.

Mute—yet when their noses bleed, they speak,
Mute, they speak when their noses bleed,
and describe the world and all within it most beautifully.
And beautifully describe the world and all within it.
