فالجوُّ نارٌ والبسيطة ماءُ
And when I add a tear to my breathing,
When I add a sigh to my breath,
Then the air is fire, and the earth is water.
The air is fire and the ground is water.
كمhow often أندبُI lament القُرناءthe companions شَجواًin sorrow والصِّباand youth
كم أندبُ القُرناء شَجواً والصِّبا
فاتَhas passed الصِّباyouth وتفرَّقَand have scattered القُرناءُthe companions
فاتَ الصِّبا وتفرَّقَ القُرناءُ
How often I mourn my companions and youth in sorrow!
How I mourn the youthful friends in anguish,
Youth has passed, and the companions have scattered.
Yet the youth is gone and the friends scattered.

قبل الممات مُرُوَّةٌ عذراءُ
And bringing us together, despite the loss of youth,
In our gathering after the loss of youth between us
Before death is a virgin act of nobility.
Is a virgin widowhood before death.
