نسيانُكُمforgetting you ضربٌa kind منof السُّخفِfolly
Do not think me forgetful of your covenant.
Do not think I have forgotten our covenant,
Forgetting you is a kind of folly.
Forgetting you would be foolishness.

أوor أعبُدI worship اللهGod علىon حَرفِan edge
It is the same whether I slacken in remembering you
It would be unthinkable for me not to mention you
Or worship God on the edge.
Or to worship God half-heartedly.

And how could I forget you, when in union with you
How could I forget you when through your friendship
Lies my life, and in your estrangement my death?
I found my life, and in your absence, my end?

Alas for a life gone by that was not
My longing for a life now past that was not
Spent in your service—alas!
Spent in your service is longing still.

وكُلُّand every حزنٍsorrow فالىso toward كَشفِrelief
This is so, and tomorrow our home draws near,
Soon we will be close to our homeland
And every sorrow is on its way to relief.
And all sorrow will disappear.

Perhaps the rust upon our companionship will be polished away
Perhaps the echo of our joy will return
By keeping busy with amusement and revelry.
Amid play and merriment.
