Whenever you come to us, calling on us in our dwellings,

You will find ample firewood and a raging fire

And many a perilous situation, O son of al-Zubayr,

For true-hearted youths on sleek horses, as though they were
For sincere young warriors, atop thoroughbred steeds as though
Arrow shafts that al-Masikhi had whittled and smoothed.
They were swords polished by Al-Masikhi and sharpened

Whenever they emerged from battle's turmoil, they returned to it,
When they emerge from darkness, they return to it
With their swords and spear-thrusts, until it cleared.
With their swords and stabbing until they find relief
