For what service, or for what favor,

are Muslim and al-Muhallab given precedence over me?

And Ibn Manjuf is summoned ahead of me, as though he were

a gelding come to the water while the ass drinks.

And the elder of Tamim, his head like the white thughama plant,

and Ghaylan, keeping clear of us, fearful and watchful.

I made the palaces of the Azd, from Manbij

to al-Ghaf in the valley of Oman, come down.

Lands from which our swords drove out the enemy,

while Sufra, his home far from them, is an outsider.

For poor service, or for the killing of my clan,

am I abased and kept far from Mus'ab's guarded doors?
