بِأَموالِكُمwith your wealth أَوor تَهلَكواyou perish فيamid الهَوالِكِperils
I tell the war-kindling young men: 'Set forth
with your wealth, or perish amid perils.'
أَناI الحُرُّthe freeborn واِبنُand son of الحُرِّal-Hurr يَحمِلُcarries شكتيmy arms

by long-necked steeds with high-held jaws.
فَمَنso whoever يَكُmay be أَمسىis by evening الزَّعفَرانُsaffron خلوقَهُhis perfume
فَإِنَّthen indeed خَلوقيmy perfume مُستَثارُwhat is stirred up السَّنابِكِthe hooves
If anyone's perfume at evening is saffron,
then my perfume is the dust stirred up by hooves.

Whenever we took spoils, they were shared out,
and we did not follow the counsel of the withholding miser.

I tell them: 'Measure out with one of your caps,
and do not make me like Ibn Malik in generosity.'

You will learn, if you vie with me, O Ibn Malik,
which of us the destitute men turn to for refuge.
