أَلَم تَرَني بِعتُ الإِقامَةَ بِالسُّرى

وَلينَ الحَشايا بِالجِيادِ الضَّوامِرِ

Did you not see me trade settled life for night journeys,

and the softness of bedding for lean, noble steeds?

أَريني فَتىً يُغَنّي غنائي وَمَوقِفي

أَريني فَتىً يُغَنّي غنائي وَمَوقِفي

إِذا رَهَجَ الوادِي بِوَقعِ الحَوافِرِ

إِذا رَهَجَ الوادِي بِوَقعِ الحَوافِرِ

Show me a youth who matches my prowess and my stand

when the valley fills with dust from the pounding of hooves.

صبحتُ شَباماً غارَةً مُشمَعِلَّةً

صبحتُ شَباماً غارَةً مُشمَعِلَّةً

وَأُخرى حَمَلناها صَباحاً لِشاكِرِ

وَأُخرى حَمَلناها صَباحاً لِشاكِرِ

I struck Shabām at dawn with a swift raid,

and another we launched in the morning against Shākir.
