وَقِدماًand long since أَبَيناwe refused أَنto نُقِرَّaccept ظُلامَةًinjustice
وَقِدماًand long since رَتَقناwe mended كُلَّevery فَتقٍbreach مِنَin الأَمرِaffairs
And long have we refused to accept injustice,
We refused to lighten the darkness,
And long have we mended every breach in affairs.
And we tore apart every seam of the matter,
وَكَمand how many مِنof غَنِيٍّa rich man قَدindeed سَلَبناهُwe stripped him of وفرَهhis wealth
بِأَسيافِناwith our swords حَتّىuntil أَقامَhe dwelt عَلىin العُسرِpoverty
And how many a rich man we have stripped of his wealth
How much wealth we robbed from the wealthy
With our swords, until he dwelt in poverty,
With our swords until he endured hardship,
بِضَربٍwith blows يزيلُthat dislodge الهامَheads عَنfrom سَكَناتِهِtheir resting places

With blows that dislodge heads from their resting places,
With blows that remove anxiety from his dwellings,
And thrusts with the tips of straightened brown spears.
And stabs with sharpened spearheads,
وَمِنand from شيعَةِthe followers of المُختارِal-Mukhtar قَبلُearlier شَفَيتُهاI assuaged it

And earlier I assuaged it upon al-Mukhtar's followers,
And I drank from the sect of Al-Mukhtar before
With blows upon their heads that dispelled sorcery.
With blows upon their skulls, nullifying magic.
