فَإِنfor if تَكُis أُمّيmy mother مِنamong نِساءٍwomen أَفاءَهاtook them as booty
فَإِن تَكُ أُمّي مِن نِساءٍ أَفاءَها
جِيادُfine القَناthe lances وَالمُرهَفاتِand the keen-edged الصَّفائِحِblades
جِيادُ القَنا وَالمُرهَفاتِ الصَّفائِحِ
For if my mother is among women taken as booty by
If my mother is one of the captive women
fine lances and keen-edged blades,
won by the swift steeds and polished swords of Qanah,
فَتَبّاًthen a curse لِفَضلِupon the distinction of الحُرِّal-Hurr إِنif لَمnot أَنَلI reach بِهِthrough it
فَتَبّاً لِفَضلِ الحُرِّ إِن لَم أَنَل بِهِ
كَرائِمَthe noblest of أَولادِthe offspring of النِّساءِthe women الصَّرائِحِof pure lineage
كَرائِمَ أَولادِ النِّساءِ الصَّرائِحِ
then cursed be al-Hurr's distinction, if through it I do not match
then shame on the virtue of the free man if with it
the noblest offspring of pureborn women.
I do not attain the noble deeds of valiant sons.
