قولاsay, you two لِغَزالٍto a gazelle أَلفَgrew fond of البانَthe bān tree مَعيwith me
قولا لِغَزالٍ أَلفَ البانَ مَعي
ماhow أَحسَنَlovely لَوif رأَيتُكI saw you الآنnow مَعيwith me
ما أَحسَنَ لَو رأَيتُك الآن مَعي
You two, tell a gazelle who grew fond of the bān tree with me:
Tell a gazelle who grazed with me,
How lovely it would be to see you with me now!
How lovely it would be if I saw you with me now.
ماnot فارَقَleft أذيالكyour hems وَاللَهِby God يَديmy hand
ما فارَقَ أذيالك وَاللَهِ يَدي
لَوif قَلبيَmy heart إِذwhen هَجَرتَنيyou forsook me كانَhad been مَعيwith me
لَو قَلبيَ إِذ هَجَرتَني كانَ مَعي
By God, my hand would not have let go of your hems,
By God, my hand did not leave your train.
if my heart had been with me when you forsook me.
If only my heart, when you left me, had gone with you.
