بِالأَمسِyesterday أَناI وَوصلهاand union with her وَالخَمرُand wine
بِالأَمسِ أَنا وَوصلها وَالخَمرُ
وَاليَومand today أَذىpain الخُمارthe hangover ليfor me وَالهَجرُand separation
وَاليَوم أَذى الخُمار لي وَالهَجرُ
Yesterday, I had union with her and wine;
Yesterday me and companionship and wine
And today, mine are the pain of a hangover and separation.
Today the pain of parting and estrangement
ياO دَهرُTime كِلاهُماboth of them لديكto you اِستَوياwere equal
يا دَهرُ كِلاهُما لديك اِستَويا
بِعsell ذاكَthat بِهَذاfor this وَفِداكَand as ransom for you العُمرُlife
بِع ذاكَ بِهَذا وَفِداكَ العُمرُ
O Time, both are alike to you;
O fate, both are equal to you
Sell that for this, and may my life be your ransom.
Take this for that, your life I redeem
