وَالدَمعُand tears عَلىupon خَدّيَmy cheek يَطغَىoverflows سَيلُهits torrent
وَالدَمعُ عَلى خَدّيَ يَطغَى سَيلُه
With your rejection, my heart’s longing grows.
With your rejection, my heart's desire grows
And the torrent of tears overflows upon my cheek.
And tears flood down my cheek in streams that flow
هِجرانُكyour abandonment فَردَa single لَيلَةٍnight أَتلَفَنيhas destroyed me
هِجرانُك فَردَ لَيلَةٍ أَتلَفَني
لاmay … not اِمتَدَّlengthen كَصُدغيكlike your two temple-locks مثنّىdoubled لَيلُهits night
لا اِمتَدَّ كَصُدغيك مثنّى لَيلُه
A single night of your abandonment has destroyed me.
Your abandonment undid me in one night
May its night not lengthen twofold, like your two temple-locks.
As ceaseless as your cheek's twin streams their flow
