هَل شُدَّ نِطاقُه بحقويهِ يُناط

هَل شُدَّ نِطاقُه بحقويهِ يُناط

إِلّا وَعَلى الرؤوسِ تاه الأَوساط

إِلّا وَعَلى الرؤوسِ تاه الأَوساط

Was his girdle ever fastened, tied about his loins,

Is his belt truly girded round his waist,

without waists vaunting themselves above heads?

Or are the ends left loose for all to see?

لا تَروِ حَديثَ خَصره عَن أَحَدٍ

لا تَروِ حَديثَ خَصره عَن أَحَدٍ

ما غَيرُ نِطاقِهِ بِذا السرِّ أَحاط

ما غَيرُ نِطاقِهِ بِذا السرِّ أَحاط

Do not recount the tale of his waist on anyone’s authority;

Speak not of his slender waist to anyone -

None but his girdle has encompassed this secret.

None but his belt its secret can relay.
