صَوناًto protect لِحَبيبَتيfor my beloved كتمتI concealed الوَلَهاpassionate longing
صَوناً لِحَبيبَتي كتمت الوَلَها
أَحتاطُI take precautions وَمِثلُyet the like of حالَتيmy state ماnot اِشتَبَهاwas ambiguous
أَحتاطُ وَمِثلُ حالَتي ما اِشتَبَها
To protect my beloved, I concealed my passionate longing.

I take precautions, yet a state like mine is unmistakable.
I took care though my state gave nothing away
مَرَّتshe passed وَعَلىand despite غَضّيَmy lowering مِنهاfrom her بَصَريmy gaze
مَرَّت وَعَلى غَضّيَ مِنها بَصَري
لَمdid not تَخفَbe hidden شَواهِدُsigns الهَوىlove بيin me وَبِهاand in her
لَم تَخفَ شَواهِدُ الهَوى بي وَبِها
She passed, and despite my lowering my gaze from her,
She passed by and my downcast eyes from her
The signs of love were not hidden in me or in her.
Did not hide the witnesses of love for her or me
