القَلب عَلى تَباعد الأَشخاصِ
مغرىenamored بكof you ماnot حَلَّhas occupied مَحَلَّthe place of القاصيthe distant one
مغرى بك ما حَلَّ مَحَلَّ القاصي
The heart, despite the distance between persons,
My heart longs across the distance
Is enamored of you; it has not taken the place of one far away.
Tempted by you, who has replaced the distant one
ذاthis خَدّيَmy cheek فيin النضارِpure gold منfrom صَفحَتِهِits surface
ذا خَدّيَ في النضارِ من صَفحَتِهِ
لَوif شئتَyou wished قرأتyou would read سورَةthe chapter of الإِخلاصِSincerity (al-Ikhlas)
لَو شئتَ قرأت سورَة الإِخلاصِ
Here is my cheek; upon its surface of pure gold,
With cheeks still fresh in their bloom
If you wished, you could read Surah al-Ikhlas.
