مِن شيمَتها الملالُ ما طابَ كَذا
She turned away and grew distant, inflicting pain upon the soul.
She turned away, departed, and so my spirit was vexed,
Boredom is among her traits; this was not pleasing.
Weariness of her nature, it did not please me thus,
بيناwhile أَناI كالرقادِlike slumber فيin عَينَيهاher two eyes
بينا أَنا كالرقادِ في عَينَيها

إِذ صِرتُ قبيل غَضِّها الطَرفَ قَذى
While I was like slumber in her eyes,
While I was like the pupils in her eyes,
I suddenly became a mote, just before she lowered her gaze.
When I became like a mote in them before she lowered her gaze.
