في الحَلي بَدَت فَحار لِلخَلق عُيونٌ
فاحَتshe exuded أَرجاًfragrance فَساءَso grew unfavorable بالمِسكَabout musk ظُنونُopinions
فاحَت أَرجاً فَساءَ بالمِسكَ ظُنونُ
She appeared in jewels, and the eyes of humankind were bewildered.
Her necklace appeared and the eyes of creation were dazzled,
She exuded fragrance, and opinions of musk soured.
Spreading fragrance, so thoughts of musk were disdained.
كَمhow often قُلتُI said وَدونand beneath حليهاher jewels الزُهرُthe stars بَدَتappeared
كَم قُلتُ وَدون حليها الزُهرُ بَدَت
تَوشيحُadornment عُقودِهاher necklaces مِنfrom اللَيلthe night جُنونُmadness
تَوشيحُ عُقودِها مِن اللَيل جُنونُ
How often I said, as the stars appeared beneath her jewels:
How often have I said, with her necklace the flowers appeared,
To adorn her necklaces with night is madness.
Stringing its pearls by night is madness.
