ياماoh, how often لِمرائِرِfor the tightly twisted cords of الهَوىpassion تَنتَكِثُcome undone
ياما لِمرائِرِ الهَوى تَنتَكِثُ
عشّاقكyour lovers فيin اِنتِظارهمtheir waiting كَمhow long لَبِثواthey lingered
عشّاقك في اِنتِظارهم كَم لَبِثوا
Oh, how often love’s tightly twisted cords come undone!
How cruel are the teasing glances of love
How long your lovers have lingered in their waiting!
While your lovers have waited so long
فيin عِشقكyour love قَدindeed متَّyou died وَلاand not تَكتَرِثُyou care
في عِشقك قَد متَّ وَلا تَكتَرِثُ
لاnot أَكرَهُI hate مَوتيmy death وَحَياتيand my life عَبَثُfutility
لا أَكرَهُ مَوتي وَحَياتي عَبَثُ
In your love you have died, yet you do not care.
They died of love for you but you are indifferent
I do not hate my death, and my life is futile.
I regret not my death nor my life in vain
