ياO بانَتَيِtwo bān trees الجِزعِthe valley bend غَراميmy passion بِكُماfor you both
يا بانَتَيِ الجِزعِ غَرامي بِكُما
ياO سَرحَتيِtwo sarḥ trees الماءِthe water أَواميmy intense thirst بِكُماfor you both
يا سَرحَتيِ الماءِ أَوامي بِكُما
O two bān trees of the valley bend, my passion is for you both.
O my two beloveds, my passion for you both,
O two sarḥ trees by the water, my thirst is for you both.
O my two does who roam by the water, my yearning for you,
عَجَّلتُI hastened نَواكُماparting from you both وَعِنديand in my view أنّيthat I
عَجَّلتُ نَواكُما وَعِندي أنّي
قَصَّرتُfell short وَلَوand even if طالَwas long مَقاميmy stay بِكُماwith you both
قَصَّرتُ وَلَو طالَ مَقامي بِكُما
I hastened my parting from you both, yet I feel that I
I've hastened your departure, though I feel
fell short, even if my stay with you both had been long.
My stay was too short, however long with you both.
