ياO ربعُdwelling مَتىwhen عَهدُكَyour last encounter بِالأَحبابِwith the loved ones
يا ربعُ مَتى عَهدُكَ بِالأَحبابِ
قَدindeed أَثَّرَhas left a mark فيكَon you غيبَةُthe absence الغيّابِthose who are away
قَد أَثَّرَ فيكَ غيبَةُ الغيّابِ
O dwelling, when were the loved ones last with you?
My dear one, when did your promise to friends
The absence of those gone has left its mark on you.
Fade, as absence made strangers of loves?
عَهديmy recollection بِذُراكof your heights مَعهَدَa haunt of الأَطرابِjoys
عَهدي بِذُراك مَعهَدَ الأَطرابِ
كَمhow often هاجَstirred هَوىlonging تُرابُthe dust of ذاكَthat البابِdoorway
كَم هاجَ هَوى تُرابُ ذاكَ البابِ
I remember your heights as a haunt of joy.
My promise to your home is as restless winds,
How often the dust of that doorway has stirred longing!
As passion stirs the dust of your door.
