لَوif أُرهِفَتِwere sharpened البيضُthe bright swords لِحَزِّto sever الهامِthe heads
لَو أُرهِفَتِ البيضُ لِحَزِّ الهامِ
أَوor سُوِّدَتwere blackened الوجوهُthe faces فيamong الأَقوامِthe peoples
أَو سُوِّدَت الوجوهُ في الأَقوامِ
If the bright swords were sharpened to sever heads,
If eggs were smashed against the skulls,
Or faces were blackened among the peoples,
Or faces blackened among the tribes,
واستَيسرand became easy خوضُناour plunging into دُجىthe gloom of night الإِظلامِdarkness
واستَيسر خوضُنا دُجى الإِظلامِ
جِئناكَwe came to you عَلىon الرؤوسِthe heads كالأَقلامِlike pens
جِئناكَ عَلى الرؤوسِ كالأَقلامِ
And our plunging into the gloom of darkness became easy,
And we plunged into the darkness easily,
We would come to you on our heads, like pens.
We would come to you like pens on heads.
