إِنif أَظهَرَhe reveals ماwhat بِقَلبِهِin his heart مِنof داءِailment
إِن أَظهَرَ ما بِقَلبِهِ مِن داءِ
صَبٌّa lovesick lover مَلكتهhas mastered him سورَةُthe force الصَهباءِthe red wine
صَبٌّ مَلكته سورَةُ الصَهباءِ
If he reveals the ailment within his heart—
If he reveals what's in his heart of illness
a lovesick lover overcome by the force of red wine—
A youth whose kingdom is ruled by fickleness
لَمnot يَقتَضِrequire غَيرَanything but صونguarding سِرّيmy secret رائيmy judgment
لَم يَقتَضِ غَيرَ صون سِرّي رائي
دينيَmy religion عِشقيmy passionate love وَمَذهَبيand my creed إِخفائيmy concealment
دينيَ عِشقي وَمَذهَبي إِخفائي
my judgment would demand nothing but guarding my secret:
It requires nothing but guarding my secret view
My religion is my love, and my creed is concealment.
