If a sword is drawn from your eyelid against the lover,
If from your eyelid a sword is unsheathed against the lover,
No injustice is feared for him, even if he is slain.
He will not fear it even if injustice consumes him.
منfrom عشقكlove for you إِذwhen ضاقgrew cramped فؤاديmy heart خَجَليmy shame
من عشقك إِذ ضاق فؤادي خَجَلي
بَيتٌa house خَربٌruined ضاقَgrew cramped عَلىfor أَكرَمthe noblest ضَيفguest
بَيتٌ خَربٌ ضاقَ عَلى أَكرَم ضَيف
My shame is that my heart grew cramped with love for you—
For love of you, when my heart was constricted with shame,
A ruined house, too cramped for the noblest guest.
A ruined house was too narrow for the most generous guest.
