كَمhow often رحتُI went إِلىto بابdoor أَميرprince الحُسنِbeauty
كَم رحتُ إِلى باب أَمير الحُسنِ
كَيso that يعديَنيhe might aid me عَلىagainst عواديassaults الحُزنِsorrow
كَي يعديَني عَلى عوادي الحُزنِ
How often I have gone to the prince of beauty’s door,
How often I went to the door of the prince of beauty
So that he might aid me against sorrow’s assaults.
That he might help me overcome my sorrows
لاno فُرصَةَchance لِلدُخولto enter فيinto خلوَتِهِhis private chamber
لا فُرصَةَ لِلدُخول في خلوَتِهِ
أَوor يومئَsignal ليto me حاجِبُهُhis chamberlain بالإِذنِwith permission
أَو يومئَ لي حاجِبُهُ بالإِذنِ
There is no chance to enter his private chamber,
No chance to enter into his privacy
Or for his chamberlain to signal permission to me.
Or his eyebrow wink to me in permission
