مِنfrom عَركِكَyour twisting أُذنَيهhis two ears بِهِupon him إِيقاعاinflicting harm
مِن عَركِكَ أُذنَيه بِهِ إِيقاعا
How many a youth who sought delight in you has gone mad
How many a young man has sought enjoyment with you
From your twisting his ears to do him harm!
Whose ears your coquetry has captivated
ماnot مُستَنِدٌone leaning إِلَيكon you كالعودِlike the lute صَباyearned
ما مُستَنِدٌ إِلَيك كالعودِ صَبا

إِلّا قَرَّعَت شكاتُه الأَسماعا
No one leaning on you has yearned like a lute
None can rely on you like a willowy sapling
Without his lament striking the ears.
Without you assaulting their hearing with laments
