كَمhow long نَلتَزِمُwe keep to السيرَjourneying كَلَيلٍlike night وَنَهارand day
كَم نَلتَزِمُ السيرَ كَلَيلٍ وَنَهار
نَدنوwe draw near وَنَرىand we see الهَجرَseparation كَلَيلٍlike night وَنَهارand day
نَدنو وَنَرى الهَجرَ كَلَيلٍ وَنَهار
How long shall we keep journeying, like night and day?
How often we walk a narrow path by night and day
We draw near, yet see separation, like night and day.
We approach and see farewells by night and by day
لِلَّهِfor God (expressing wonder) مجاورانِtwo neighbors لَمhave not يَختَلِطاthe two mingled
لِلَّهِ مجاورانِ لَم يَختَلِطا
مَعdespite قربهماtheir closeness الدهرall time كَلَيلٍlike night وَنَهارand day
مَع قربهما الدهر كَلَيلٍ وَنَهار
By God, two neighbors who have never mingled,
To God they are neighbors who will never meet
Despite their closeness throughout time, like night and day.
Despite their closeness for eternity night and day
