أَنطِقmake speak وَتَراًa string بِهِthrough it اشتفىfound healing الأَرواحُthe souls
أَنطِق وَتَراً بِهِ اشتفى الأَرواحُ
أَعمِلهُput it to work فَفيfor in بَنانكyour fingertips الأَفراحُjoys
أَعمِلهُ فَفي بَنانك الأَفراحُ
Make a string speak; through it souls have found healing.
Play it, for joy lies in your fingertips.
إِبهامُكَyour thumb ماnever اِنتَحَتsought out لِعودٍof a lute وَتَراًa string
إِبهامُكَ ما اِنتَحَت لِعودٍ وَتَراً
إِلّاexcept وَلَهُand it has عَنabout الهَوىlove إِفصاحُclear expression
إِلّا وَلَهُ عَن الهَوى إِفصاحُ
Your thumb has never sought out a lute’s string
without its giving clear expression to love.
