مِسكينكyour poor wretch باحَdivulged بِالَّذيabout that which غَطّاهُhe concealed it
مِسكينك باحَ بِالَّذي غَطّاهُ
إِذsince لفظكyour words كاهِلَthe upper back المنىhopes أَمطاهُset him astride
إِذ لفظك كاهِلَ المنى أَمطاهُ
Your poor one confessed what had shrouded him,
Your poor wretch divulged what he had concealed,
when your utterance mounted the withers of hopes.
For your words set him astride the back of hope.
مِنof لطفكyour kindness ماnot أَقَلَّbore; carried حَظّاa share فَمُهُhis mouth
مِن لطفك ما أَقَلَّ حَظّا فَمُهُ
لوif فوكyour mouth بقدرaccording to وُسعهits capacity أَعطاهُgave him
لو فوك بقدر وُسعه أَعطاهُ
Of your kindness, how scant a share his mouth has—
His mouth would carry away no share of your kindness
if only your mouth would grant him according to its capacity!
If your mouth gave him according to its capacity.
