كَمhow often بِتُّI spent the night وَنارand the fire of لَوعَتيmy anguish مستعرَهblazing
كَم بِتُّ وَنار لَوعَتي مستعرَه
تَنحَلُّcome undone عُقودُthe necklaces of عبرَتيmy tears منتثرَهscattering
تَنحَلُّ عُقودُ عبرَتي منتثرَه
How often I spent the night with the fire of my anguish ablaze,
The necklaces of my tears unraveling and scattering.
فابيضَّso turned white مَفارِقُthe hair-partings of الدُجىnight's darkness منfrom نَفَسيmy breath
فابيضَّ مَفارِقُ الدُجى من نَفَسي
وَالشُهبُand the shooting stars كأدمعيlike my tears غَدَتbecame مُنكَدرَهtumbling down
وَالشُهبُ كأدمعي غَدَت مُنكَدرَه
So the partings of night's hair turned white from my breath,
And the shooting stars, like my tears, came tumbling down.
