خُض في الغَمَراتِ غاربَ الأَمواجِ

ما المقدِمُ فانٍ وَسِواهُ ناجِ

Brave the waves’ crest amid the perilous depths.

It is not that the bold perish while others escape.

لا يَقطَعُ قَطعاً وَيَقيناً ظُبةٌ

لا يَقطَعُ قَطعاً وَيَقيناً ظُبةٌ

أَو يَعتَرِضَ القاطِعُ لِلهَلّاجِ

أَو يَعتَرِضَ القاطِعُ لِلهَلّاجِ

No sword-edge cuts, certainly and surely,

unless the cutter confronts the babbler.
