عابوهُ فَقالوا نُسَخَت آياتُه

عابوهُ فَقالوا نُسَخَت آياتُه

وَالخَطُّ أَتى وَما دَنا ميقاتُه

وَالخَطُّ أَتى وَما دَنا ميقاتُه

They faulted him, saying, “His verses have been abrogated;

And facial down has appeared, though its appointed time is not yet near.”

ما اِختَطَّ وَلا كادَ وَحاشاهُ بَلى

ما اِختَطَّ وَلا كادَ وَحاشاهُ بَلى

مِن آهةِ وَجدي صَدِئت مِرآتُه

مِن آهةِ وَجدي صَدِئت مِرآتُه

He has grown no down, nor come close—far be it from him! Rather,

His mirror has rusted from the sigh of my yearning.
