قَدindeed باحَspoke openly بسرِّهof its secret لِسانُthe tongue of الشَمعِthe candle
قَد باحَ بسرِّه لِسانُ الشَمعِ
واِستَرسَلand flowed freely فيover الخُدودِthe cheeks فَيضُa flood of الدَمعِtears
واِستَرسَل في الخُدودِ فَيضُ الدَمعِ
The candle's tongue has divulged its secret,
And a flood of tears has streamed down the cheeks.
إِنif ذُبتُI melt فمنthen from سَوادthe blackness of وَجهيmy face خَجَلاًout of shame
إِن ذُبتُ فمن سَواد وَجهي خَجَلاً
إِذfor قَرَّtook delight بحُرقَتيin my burning عُيونُthe eyes of الجَمعِthe gathering
إِذ قَرَّ بحُرقَتي عُيونُ الجَمعِ
If I melt, it is from shame at the blackness of my face,
For the eyes of the gathering took delight in my burning.
