قالَت وَتَردَّيتُ بِشَيبٍ يَزري
أَلقاكَI find you مُنَكّساًbowed down لطرفtoward the edge of القَبرِthe grave
أَلقاكَ مُنَكّساً لطرف القَبرِ
She said, as I was cloaked in unbecoming gray hair:
She said, while I wavered with hoary old age
“I find you bowed toward the edge of the grave.”
I found you bowed at the edge of the grave
إِنif نُكِّسَis bowed down ذاthis الشِطاطُtall stature ماthere is not مِنany نُكرِstrangeness
إِن نُكِّسَ ذا الشِطاطُ ما مِن نُكرِ
فالأَلويةُfor the banners البيضُthe white شِعارُthe emblem of الكُفرِunbelief
فالأَلويةُ البيضُ شِعارُ الكُفرِ
If this tall frame is bowed, there is nothing strange in that:
If this standard is overturned, it's no disgrace
For white banners are the emblem of unbelief.
For the white banners are the emblems of unbelief
