أَقبَلتَyou came إِليَّto me زائِراًas a visitor تَرتاحُyou take your ease
أَقبَلتَ إِليَّ زائِراً تَرتاحُ
أَمor حَثَّurged عَلىto المَشيwalking إِلَيناto us الراحُwine
أَم حَثَّ عَلى المَشي إِلَينا الراحُ
You came to me as a visitor, seeking repose—
Did you come to me as a visitor, seeking ease,
or was it the wine upon your face that yearned for us?
or did wine urge you to walk to us?
أَغَرَتكَshe enticed you بِناto us فِدىًa ransom لَهاfor her الأَرواحُsouls
أَغَرَتكَ بِنا فِدىً لَها الأَرواحُ
ماnot زرتyou visited بَلrather اِستزارَكَinvited you to visit الأَقداحُthe goblets
ما زرت بَل اِستزارَكَ الأَقداحُ
Did she entice you with us—souls be her ransom!
She enticed you to us—may souls be her ransom!
You did not come visiting; rather, the goblets summoned you.
You did not visit; rather, the goblets invited you.
