عَن وَجديَ أخبَرتُ وَعَن أَشواقي

قالَت أَيُرى بَعدُ عَلى الميثاقِ

قالَت أَيُرى بَعدُ عَلى الميثاقِ

Of my passion I told her, and of all my longings.

I told of my passion and of my longings.

She said, “Will he ever again be found true to the covenant?”

She said, “Is he still true to the pledge?”

قالوا وَلَهُ فيك قَوافٍ قالَت

قالوا وَلَهُ فيك قَوافٍ قالَت

أَنشدنيَ فَهيَ ضالّةُ العُشّاقِ

أَنشدنيَ فَهيَ ضالّةُ العُشّاقِ

They said, “He has verses about you.” She said,

They said, “And he has verses about you.” She said,

“Recite them to me—they are the lovers’ long-sought treasure.”

“Recite them to me, for they are the lovers’ lost treasure.”
