مِن زُرِّ قَميصها إِلى ما أَدنى
I made for her quarters, and the dwelling grew sweet,
I roamed its expanses, so the melody was sweet
From her shirt’s button to what lay below.
From the buttons of her shirt to her hips so neat
خاصَرتُI clasped her waist فَقالَتthen she said وَرأتand she noticed ليof mine نَظَراًa gaze
خاصَرتُ فَقالَت وَرأت لي نَظَراً
ماnot مِثلُكone like you مغرىcaptivated بِدَقيقby the subtlety of المعنىthe meaning
ما مِثلُك مغرى بِدَقيق المعنى
I clasped her waist; she said, noticing my gaze:
I drew her close, and she cast on me a tender look
“One like you is not captivated by subtle meaning.”
None like you can discern such subtle meaning in a book
