رَغماًin defiance لَكُمof you all معاشِرَO company of العُذّالِthe reproachers
رَغماً لَكُم معاشِرَ العُذّالِ
آثَرتُI preferred شِطاطَtallness and grace قَدِّهhis stature المَيّالِswaying
آثَرتُ شِطاطَ قَدِّه المَيّالِ
In defiance of you, O company of reproachers,
In spite of you, people of reproach
I have preferred the tall grace of his swaying stature.
I have chosen the banks of his flowing river
قَدindeed وافَقَmatched سروُthe cypress قَدِّهِof his stature أَفئدةhearts
قَد وافَقَ سروُ قَدِّهِ أَفئدة
أُنبِتنَwere made to grow صَنَوبَريَّةَpine-cone-like الأَشكالِthe shapes
أُنبِتنَ صَنَوبَريَّةَ الأَشكالِ
The cypress of his stature has found hearts to match,
The stature of his nobility has won hearts
Grown in the shape of pine cones.
That grew into pine trees of beautiful shapes
