ما أَوقَحَ ذا الوَردَ عَلى الإِطلاقِ
إِذfor عارضrivaled خَدَّيهhis two cheeks لَدىin الإِشراقِradiance
إِذ عارض خَدَّيه لَدى الإِشراقِ
How utterly brazen this rose is,
How impudent is this rose in full bloom
for it rivaled his cheeks in radiance!
As it displays its cheeks at dawn
مِنfrom صُحفِthe pages جَمالthe beauty وَجههhis face كاملةًcomplete
مِن صُحفِ جَمال وَجهه كاملةً
ماnot عَلَّقَcopied down وَاللَهِby God سوىexcept أَوراقِleaves
ما عَلَّقَ وَاللَهِ سوى أَوراقِ
From the complete pages of his face’s beauty,
Perfect pages of beauty on its face
by God, it has copied nothing but leaves.
It hangs nothing but petals, by God
