After my passion had exposed me in the neighborhood,
After my shame at professing love openly
After I had endured stalling over the promise,
After my perseverance in keeping my word

He turned away and, as a mark of his desertion, seared my heart,
He turned away, and with his abandonment my heart was seared
He tells me that the last resort for illness is cautery.
It warns me that death is the final cure
