سُرَّ الفؤاد بعرس من سرت بهِ

كل الأنام لفضلهِ المتعاظمِ

كل الأنام لفضلهِ المتعاظمِ

The heart was gladdened by the wedding of one in whom

The heart rejoiced at a wedding of one veiled

All humankind rejoiced for his ever-growing excellence:

All people for his great virtues are enthralled

الشهم إلياس الذي أوصافهُ

الشهم إلياس الذي أوصافهُ

قد أقصرت بالمدح أيدي الناظمِ

قد أقصرت بالمدح أيدي الناظمِ

The noble-hearted Elias, whose qualities

The noble Ilyas whose qualities

The poet's hands have fallen short of praising.

Exceed what any eulogizer has extolled

لاحت إلى هذا الزمان علائِمٌ

لاحت إلى هذا الزمان علائِمٌ

منهُ فكانت فيهِ خير علائِمِ

منهُ فكانت فيهِ خير علائِمِ

Signs have shone forth up to the present time,

Signs of him shone in this time

From him, and in this age they were the finest signs.

And were in it the best of signs

غنم الفتى لحماه سيدة النسا

غنم الفتى لحماه سيدة النسا

ولذاك أرخ قد دعاهُ بغانمِ

ولذاك أرخ قد دعاهُ بغانمِ

The young man won for his home the foremost of women;

The youth gained for his protector the mistress of women

And so, record the date: he has called him a winner.

And so he called him Ghannam
