ياO ظريفاًwitty one أَهدَيتَyou gave as a gift خِلَّكَyour friend ظَرفاًa container
يا ظريفاً أَهدَيتَ خِلَّكَ ظَرفاً
وَهوَand it is خاليempty الحَشىthe interior بلاwithout مظروفِcontents
وَهوَ خالي الحَشى بلا مظروفِ
O witty one, you gave your friend a container,
And it is empty within, with nothing inside.
إنماonly الظَرفُthe container والذيand that which يحتويهِit contains it
إنما الظَرفُ والذي يحتويهِ
فيin التَهادِيexchanging gifts تَتِمَّةُcompletion of المعروفِthe kindness
في التَهادِي تَتِمَّةُ المعروفِ
Only the container and what it holds
Together complete the kindness when gifts are exchanged.
