ياO رقيّاًone exalted بالحِجَىin wisdom
يا رقيّاً بالحِجَى
لاقَwas fitting بيfor me انthat أُنشِدَهI recite to him
لاقَ بي ان أُنشِدَه
O one exalted in wisdom,
O tender because of sorrow,
It was fitting for me to recite to him:
If he recites it to me, I will recite to him
ماwhat يُضاهيequals ياO فتىyoung man
ما يُضاهي يا فتى
والدَa father of ابنٍa son انشَدَهhe recited to him
والدَ ابنٍ انشَدَه
What equals, O young man,
Nothing compares, O youth,
A father whose son recited to him?
To a father's reciting it to his son
