لم تكفَ غايةٌ بالحلي إذ أثَرَت
هَلاكَthe ruin of أَكمَهِone blind from birth قلبٍheart طامحِlonging النَظَرthe gaze
هَلاكَ أَكمَهِ قلبٍ طامحِ النَظَر
Ghaya was not content with jewels, for she desired
Adornment could not restrain her once she chose
the ruin of one blind at heart, with a longing gaze.
To spell destruction for a heart of lofty dreams.
فاختارتso she chose الطيبَthe perfume كيماso that تستقيدَshe might enthrall بهِwith it
فاختارت الطيبَ كيما تستقيدَ بهِ
عُمىthe blind البصيرةِinner sight حتىeven فاقدَone lacking البَصَرَeyesight
عُمى البصيرةِ حتى فاقدَ البَصَرَ
So she chose perfume, with which to ensnare
So she selected perfume that she might steal
the inwardly blind—even one bereft of sight.
The keen sight even of the man bereft of sight.
