فَرطُexcess التداويmedical treatment بالتواليin succession آفةٌa scourge
فَرطُ التداوي بالتوالي آفةٌ
للجِسمto the body فَهوَfor it بفرطِهِthrough its excess يُضنِيهِwears it down
للجِسم فَهوَ بفرطِهِ يُضنِيهِ
Excessive treatment, time after time, is a scourge
Excessive treatment in succession is harmful
To the body, for its excess wears it down.
For the body, so with excess it makes it sick
لمdid not ينتفعbenefit عُضوٌan organ بهِfrom it إِلَّاexcept that أَضَرَّharmed
لم ينتفع عُضوٌ بهِ إِلَّا أَضَرَّ
بغيرهِto another besides it فشِفاهُso its cure سُقمُsickness اخيهِits brother
بغيرهِ فشِفاهُ سُقمُ اخيهِ
No organ has benefited from it without harm
No organ has benefited from it except it has harmed
To another; its cure is its brother's sickness.
Another so its healing is the illness of its brother
فالسيفُfor the sword يُجلَىis burnished بالصِقالby polishing وانماbut only
فالسيفُ يُجلَى بالصِقال وانما
فرطُexcess الصِقالِpolishing علىover المَدَىthe course of time يَبريهِwears it away
فرطُ الصِقالِ على المَدَى يَبريهِ
For the sword is burnished by polishing, but only
The sword is polished with honing but
Excessive polishing, over time, wears it away.
Excessive honing in the long term ruins it
والغَسلُand washing يُنقيcleanses الثوبَthe garment منof أَدرانِهِits grime
والغَسلُ يُنقي الثوبَ من أَدرانِهِ
لكنماbut استمرارُهُits continuation يُبليهِwears it out
لكنما استمرارُهُ يُبليهِ
And washing cleanses the garment of its grime,
Washing purifies clothes of their stains
But continuing it wears the garment out.
But its continuation wears them out
انindeed الدواءَmedicine ليَستحيلُsurely turns إلىinto الدَوَىdisease
ان الدواءَ ليَستحيلُ إلى الدَوَى
انif لمdoes not يُصادِفencounter عِلَّةًan ailment تعنيهِconcerns it
ان لم يُصادِف عِلَّةً تعنيهِ
Indeed, medicine turns into disease
Medicine does not turn into illness
If it encounters no ailment that calls for it.
Unless it meets an ailment it can treat
