أخفاكhas hidden you رمسٌa grave أُمَّO mother of ظاهرZahir عنfrom
أخفاك رمسٌ أُمَّ ظاهر عن
أهليكِyour kin إذwhen أُدرِجتِyou were wrapped بالكَفَنِin the shroud
أهليكِ إذ أُدرِجتِ بالكَفَنِ
A grave has hidden you, Umm Zahir, from
your kin, when you were wrapped in the shroud.
خذيreceive الأمانيhopes بالمُنَىwith wishes فَلَقدfor indeed
خذي الأماني بالمُنَى فَلَقد
غادرتِyou have left دارabode الغدرِtreachery والإِحَنِand rancor
غادرتِ دار الغدرِ والإِحَنِ
Receive your hopes along with your wishes, for indeed
you have left the abode of treachery and rancor.
وُفِّقتِyou were granted success اذاwhen اضحيتِyou became راحلةًdeparting
وُفِّقتِ اذا اضحيتِ راحلةً
إلىto ديارabodes السِلمpeace والامنِand safety
إلى ديار السِلم والامنِ
You were favored when you set out
for the abodes of peace and safety.
عزَّwas hard to find العَزاءُconsolation بكِfor your loss فأَرَّخَهُso he dated it
عزَّ العَزاءُ بكِ فأَرَّخَهُ
سقيmay it be watered ضريحكِyour tomb هاطلabundant الهتنِsteady rain
سقي ضريحكِ هاطل الهتنِ
Consolation for your loss is hard to find, so he dated it:
May your tomb be watered with abundant, steady rain.
