عِندَduring البعادِseparation تَذكُّراًremembrance وعِتاباand reproach
Oh, for a fault that brought me, from my heart's desire,
remembrance and reproach in separation!
عَتباًa reproach رَبِحتُI won بهthrough it رِضىًfavor منfrom سَيِّديmy master
اذfor قدindeed غَدَوتُI have begun أُقبِّلُI kiss الأَعتاباthe thresholds
A reproach through which I won my master's favor,
for I have taken to kissing the thresholds.

And often a noble steed has stumbled over a rock
that served it as a warning, leading it aright.
