بَنِيها وآلَت أَنَّها ليسَ تُحسِنُ
Behold, break with the world, for it has persisted in harming
Alas! The world's harm has connected,
Its children, and has sworn that it will do no good.
Its children have decided it cannot be kind.
فمَنso whoever يَرجُhopes for أَمناًsafety منfrom مَكايِدِstratagems حربهاits war
فمَن يَرجُ أَمناً من مَكايِدِ حربها

يَكُن كالذي يرجو لما ليسَ يُمكِنُ
So whoever hopes for safety from the stratagems of its war
Who hopes for safety from its war's plots,
Will be like one who hopes for what is impossible.
Is like one who hopes for what cannot happen.

تُعاضُis replaced ببؤسٍwith misery ثمَّthen فيin الحينِthe moment تَسكُنُfalls still
تُعاضُ ببؤسٍ ثمَّ في الحينِ تَسكُنُ
For just as you see its prosperity begin to stir,
While its prosperity seems to stir,
It is replaced by misery, then at once falls still.
It is stung by misery, then in an instant, it rests.
