ولَرُبَّand many a غَرقَىdrowning people أُشغِلواwere preoccupied بنُفوسِهمwith themselves
ولَرُبَّ غَرقَى أُشغِلوا بنُفوسِهم
عنfrom صَيدِcatching ماwhat فيin البحرthe sea منof حِيتانِfish
عن صَيدِ ما في البحر من حِيتانِ
And many drowning people were preoccupied with themselves,
Many a drowned man was preoccupied with his soul
rather than catching the fish in the sea,
And neglected to fish the whales in the sea
كالبعضِlike some غاصواthey plunged بالخَطاءِinto error فأغفلواso they neglected
كالبعضِ غاصوا بالخَطاءِ فأغفلوا
صيدَcatching الثَوابِreward بأَبحُرِin the seas of الأَزمانِthe ages
صيدَ الثَوابِ بأَبحُرِ الأَزمانِ
like some who plunged into error and so neglected
Some dove into sin and overlooked
fishing for reward in the seas of time.
