I marveled at the woman, for during her labor

she spews death from the cups of its pools.

And when that is over, she returns to her husband

and forgets what she endured during her labor.

So, when my mind was baffled by her swift reversal

and the excessive alternation of her expansion and contraction,

I deliberately mounted the hump of objection,

and came to her with a questioning challenge:

"What ails you, O you who were made to swallow death's choking pangs,

that you obeyed the soul's desire when it stirred?"

So she said, "Enough! This is the wisdom of God, whose

pleasure lies in the survival of species, not in their extinction."
